Death Recovery

In Campaign, follow the Belongings Sack marker on your map or minimap back to where you died. Your hotbar, inventory and equipped backpack—including its contents—are in that sack. Armor stays on your character. This recovery route is for Campaign: in Survival, death resets the world.

What to do, in order

  1. Confirm you are playing Campaign. The store describes Survival as a world reset on death, so a sack-recovery plan belongs to Campaign. Before a Campaign outing, build a Bonfire in Build → Fire & Cooking with 10 Wood + 15 Stone. In the announced EA rules, it is your fallback when no sleeping place is marked; this is preparation before leaving camp, not an action to perform after death.

  2. After the death countdown, you respawn next to the bed, Sleeping Bag or tent you marked. Without one marked, the Bonfire is the fallback. Respawn restores full health and at least half hunger and thirst.

  3. Before leaving base again, take food, water and medicine for the return trip. Leave another small reserve at home in case the recovery attempt also fails.

  4. Open your world map or read the minimap and follow the sack marker to the death location. Approach the sack and collect your belongings. Check hotbar items, inventory and the equipped backpack contents against what you lost.

  5. If you die again, use the separate markers. Each death makes its own sack, so a second death does not replace the first sack; the official devlog also says sacks are saved with the game.

After you collect the sack

The items you want are back in your inventory or backpack. Move them to base storage before resuming the trip that caused the loss.

If the return trip goes wrong

A missing backpack on your newly respawned character is expected: the equipped backpack drops in the sack. If you woke at the Bonfire, the game did not have a marked bed, Sleeping Bag or tent for that respawn. If a marker or interaction still fails after those checks, record the mode and build when reporting it; these steps are not a promise that every EA bug is resolved.
